STOP Car Crime

STOP Car Crime is a campaign that diva have been commissioned to deliver for Sheffield’s crime and disorder reduction partnership Sheffield Safer Communities Partnership for the last few years, with the difficult task of refreshing the campaign each year with new messages and new imagery.

The campaign aims to encourage vehicle owners in the city not to leave things on display in their vehicles, as this can lead to an increased chance of the car being targeted by thieves. The campaign also aims to get people to park in the more secure locations where they are least likely to have their car targeted.

One of the most successful elements of the recent STOP Car Crime campaign was a pr campaign around parking meters in city centre car parks, which were fitted with messages to motorists from celebrities (through the use of a sound-alike artist). The messages reminded drivers not to leave things on display in their cars. The pr campaign gained a great deal of coverage, including national coverage from The Times, The Daily Sport, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Asian Network, and even included some global interest – with TMZ in Los Angeles running the story!

Printed materials, including billboards, bus advertising, posters, leaflets, folders for newly passed drivers and postcards for school children to send home to their parents were used to spread the message far and wide. In previous years tax-disc holders, air fresheners and pens were amongst the vehicles used to promote the message to members of the public.

Alongside the vehicle crime campaign, diva also supported the Safer Communities Partnership with their wider marketing requirements, which included a website, www.sheffieldsafercommunities.net to highlight a range of safety issues to Sheffield’s communities, including substance misuse, violent crime, burglary and anti social behaviour (ASB), and also included a corporate strategy document for the partnership. Diva also supported the partnership with a number of events, including an event for the Drug Interventions Programme held to inform local magistrates about changes in law around restrictions on bail for substance misusers.
