DIVA CONTINUES TO LOOK AT THE GREENER PICTURE!
Award-winning marketing and communications agency diva creative is leading by example in the environmental stakes, after showing their support for a local school's environmental project.
As part of this year's 'Walk to Work Day', staff at diva creative were sponsored to walk to and from work. With the money raised, the Sheffield-based agency wanted to make sure they supported a positive environmental scheme and The City School's project became the obvious choice.
Since 2005, The City School has been working to improve the quality of life for people living in a small village in Southern Africa called Malealea, by improving the environment and tackling smoke inhalation and water contamination. Smoke inhalation is a problem in Malealea as many families burn materials as an energy source - the smoke from the stoves is polluting the air. To help, The City School has been fundraising and researching new technologies with local engineers Arup, to create smokeless stoves. There is also an extensive tree-planting programme, which aims to stabilise soil erosion, and provide fuel wood for community members. Sometimes the trees also produce fruit for the community.
The money donated by diva will see more trees being planted and diva staff have each been given their own tree tag to write a message to the people in Malealea, even Matey the office dog got her paws on one!
diva creative is committed to helping the environment, and has a number of clients within the environmental sector, including Care4Air, South Yorkshire's air quality awareness campaign and the Sheffield Is My Planet campaign, which is jointly delivered by the agency and Sheffield First Environment Partnership.
Shirley Harris, Creative Director at diva, said:" We are committed to improving the environment and this commitment is embedded within our working practice. Being sustainable is prominent in our ethos as a company.
"Walk to Work Day provided us with an excellent opportunity to do something extra for the environment,t and encourage our staff to use more sustainable methods of transport. We wanted to give our donation to a worthwhile project and The City School seemed like the perfect choice. We fully support what the school is aiming to achieve and it is crucial that we not only consider our immediate environment but also look at the bigger global picture and people who are not as fortunate as many of us."
Ken Dunn, Assistant Headteacher at The City School, said: "We are extremely grateful for all donations that we receive for our project in Malealea. It is great to see organisations like diva creative engaging with environmental issues and working to improve them - It's a bonus that they managed to raise money to be able to support local projects like ours!"
