PRAISE FOR INNOVATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL FLEET SCHEME

Ecostars

A new South Yorkshire scheme that recognises fleet operators who are using lower polluting vehicles and effective fuel management has gained national recognition. The ECO (Efficient and Cleaner Operations) Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme, which is the first of its kind in the UK, has been set up by longstanding diva client Care4Air .

The free scheme helps LGV, HGV, bus and coach fleet operators to improve efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and reduce emissions – helping to improve local air quality and reduce climate change.

diva's inhouse creative design team developed the new ECO Stars brand, applying it to membership collateral and an online presence at www.care4air.org

Each organisation signing up to the scheme has both their individual vehicles and their overall road transport operation assessed using star rating criteria, to recognise good environmental performance. Bespoke action plans are developed for each scheme member to help them progress to higher ratings levels and all assessed vehicles are given door stickers to profile their efficiency and environmental credentials.

Since the scheme launched in January, 137 vehicles have been ECO Star assessed. By implementing the key measures in the ECO Stars scheme an estimated 822 fewer tonnes of carbon dioxide will be emitted by these vehicles in the local air this year.

Simon Hughes, Liberal Democrat spokesman for Energy and Climate Change was aware of Care4Air and ECO Stars thanks to diva's work to raise awareness of air quality and the many innovative initiatives delivered by Care4Air. On a recent visit to Sheffield he added his voice to the ECO Stars drive to improve air quality and prevent climate change.

Simon Hughes MP, said: “This is a fantastic scheme which can make a real difference in the battle against climate change and help local businesses save money in these difficult economic times. I would urge other local businesses in Sheffield and South Yorkshire join the scheme.”
