Turning family bus trips into legendary journeys

Family days out can be pretty hectic. But getting there shouldn’t have to be. Travelling by bus gives parents the freedom to share the views, follow a child’s curiosity or get absorbed in a game together, without having to keep their attention on the road. We wanted to make that time together part of the appeal of choosing the bus.

And in Cornwall, there’s plenty to fire the imagination.

Its myths, monsters and folklore inspired Legendary Journeys by Bus: an activity pack designed for parents and children to enjoy together, on board and as they explored the county.

The invitation was simple: become Folklore Guardians. Discover Cornish legends and myths, take on fun challenges and embark on an adventure to help keep these ancient stories alive. What better way to help preserve those tales and the landscape that inspired them than by leaving the car at home and exploring Cornwall by bus?

Case files, monster trackers, puzzles and competitions brought the adventure to life, giving parents and children things to discover, solve and talk about together. The pack encouraged families to look afresh at the Cornwall around them, giving their journeys a sense of place and a shared purpose. Richly illustrated throughout, it was designed to be as enjoyable to look at as it was to take part in.

Distributed through partners across Cornwall during the summer holidays, the pack received an enthusiastic response. Among those surveyed, 87% of parents said their children loved it, and 18% said they had chosen to travel by bus with their children after seeing the campaign.

By turning travel time into family time, we brought a little magic to taking the bus for parents and their little monsters alike.
